Shakespeare's play, 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' is set in Athens, Greece and is mainly about four lovers, Lysander, Hermia, Demetrius and Helena. Demetrius and Lysander both love Hermia, Hermia only loves Lysander and Helena loves only Demetrius. Lysander and Hermia try to run away into the forest but then they get into even more trouble all because of Puck. There is also a mystical part to this play because there is a Land of the Fairies which has its own adventures and stories, one of them is that the two fairy rulers, Oberon and Titania are quarrelling over a little changeling boy which causes havoc among nature and life. Not to mention the Mechanics who dream of putting on a play them selves , however not everything goes to plan. This is truly three worlds in one play.

Love
I think that love is by far one of the biggest themes in this play. While everything else goes on there is always a couple getting together in some other part of the story e.g. Lysander and Hermia, Oberon and Titania. Also the main world and plot revolves around love, which is very wise of Shakespeare because love is one of the most central and vital parts of life and people can relate to it.
Magic
I think that this play's second theme is definitely magic because there is a bit of magic in most parts. Magic as a theme was very popular in the Elizabethan Era. e.g. When Bottom gets a donkey head. All the fairies, gods and spells in the play are different forms of magic.
